The Magnet is a pickaxe that, when used to break a block, causes items dropped to be sucked towards the player, as if the player had a magnetic field, hence the name. The Magnet can be used as an enchantment applied to other tools.

The Magnet is both an item that can be enchanted, and be used as way to enchant other tools with the ‘Magnet’ enchantment. If the Magnet is enchanted with other enchantments first, they will not transfer over to whatever tools the player decides to use the Magnet for. Magnet is also a tremendously expensive enchant to apply onto other tools, usually costing over 30 levels. There are only three enchantments in which the Magnet item can have.

The Magnet can be applied to various tools that can also have silk touch, mending, and unbreaking applied to them as well, even if they seem unorthodox. When applied to another tool, the Magnet enchant will take the durability of the current tool's maximum durability count.
The Magnet's ability to pickup items upon breaking them makes this as a great item/enchant for constructions that don't have any solid ground beneath them.
Enchanting the Magnet onto golden tools is a viable idea thanks to the infinite durability bug it provides. This makes Golden tools for general gathering purposes better than rite in a number of cases.
Enchanting the Magnet onto a golden axe that has both the silk touch and Splinter enchant the ideal tool to use for gathering materials thanks to the Splinter's ability to chop down trees and mushrooms really fast.
